Habitats provide food and shelter to the animals.

Types of Habitats

  • Forest
  • desert
  • ocean, seas
  • fresh water
  • mountain tops and polar regions.

Examples of habitats

Forests

Forest
Jungle

Lion, tiger, bear, bat,etc stay in den/cave in the jungle. So den/cave is the habitat of these animals.

Rabbit,rats,snakes,earthworms,etc live inside the burrows.

Monkeys and different types of birds live on trees in a forest.

Desert

Desert
Desert

Sandy and dry region is known as Desert where very little rainfall occurs. Here, days are hot and nights are cold. Animals live here have special features so that they can survive in such hot climate.

The animals here sweat very much. To avoid water loss, they have thick skin. Some animals hide in the burrows due to hot climate.

Example:

Camel,bandicoot,scorpion,etc

Ocean, seas:

The Arctic and Antarctica are the region near the North pole and South pole of the Earth. These are the polar regions.

The animals live here have special features to survive in the cold climate. Their bodies are covered with fur due to which they keep themselves warm.

Example:

Walrus, polar bear, Penguins, seal, etc.

Breathing organs in Animals

The process by which carbon dioxide, water, and energy are produced is called Respiration. This process is of two categories:

External Respiration

In this process, animals inhale oxygen and exhale carbon di oxide. This is also called as breathing.

Internal Respiration

In this process, the cells use the oxygen in the chemical reactions.

Breathing organ- Lungs

Respiratory system through lungs occur in amphibians, birds and mammals.

Breathing organ- Gills

  • Aquatic animals like fish and prawns breathe through gills.
  • Gills contain blood vessels.
  • These vessels help in breathing.

Breathing organ- Tracheal system

  • These tubes help in breathing.
  • The exchange of gases through these tubes is called the Tracheal system.

Breathing organ-Body wall or Skin

  • Some animals use their skin in exchanging the gases.
  • The skin is very thin.
  • Many blood cells are there on the skin.
  • The skin should not be dry.
  • When the skin becomes dry, they feel suffocation.
  • This is the reason they stay in wet spaces.
  • Example: Tapeworms, earthworms, and leeches

Breathing organ- many

Some animals such as frogs use more than one organ to breathe. Tadpoles use gills for breathing whereas frogs exchange the gases through their skin and breathe through the lungs.

Body covering of Animals

Body covering plays an important role in all animals’ lives. All animals except the human beings can’t wear the dresses as per weather requirement to protect themselves.
